October 8, 2026
The Delray Beach GreenMarket opens its 31st winter season on Saturday, October 24. It runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Old School Square campus at 51 N. Swinton Avenue, with more than 70 local growers, makers and food vendors. On that same morning, the 15th Annual Witches of Delray ride finishes at Old School Square. Kidsfest also takes over the grounds, and the Halloween parade ends there. The CRA, the City and Old School Square all list these events on the same campus that day. None of them has posted a notice moving the market.
That overlap is how the market normally works. The CRA has kept a Saturday market going since 1996, and it closes for very few things. This fall, two of the season's first three Saturdays share the campus with a major listed event. The one fall Saturday the market closes is the one day the City needs the whole downtown.
From October 24, 2026 through May 22, 2027, the winter season runs 31 Saturdays. The CRA's vendor application lists exactly three closed dates:
That leaves 28 market Saturdays. Halloween, Art on the Square and an orchid sale all leave the market in place. The three closures are a parade, a street festival and the Delray Affair. The CRA's announcement says any added closures for citywide events will be posted on the GreenMarket webpage and its social channels. For a resident, the season is easy to plan around. Unless one of those three dates is on the calendar, the market is open, crowded or not.
The three weeks before opening day are the calmest stretch downtown will have until late spring, and a few things are already changing.
Alma, in the former Table 165 space at 165 NE 2nd Avenue, holds its grand-opening ribbon-cutting on Monday, October 5, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Downtown Delray Restaurant Month ended September 30, but the Downtown Development Authority lists two offers that run longer. Amar Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar's prix fixe and the combo at Amar Sandwich Shop both run through October 15.
The bigger change for anyone driving in on a Saturday morning is enforcement. The City gave a warning period from August 31 through September 30. Since October 1, a vehicle blocking a sidewalk in Delray Beach can draw a $250 fine. Opening day will be the first big downtown Saturday under the new rule, with a market, a bike ride, trick-or-treating and a parade all drawing cars at once.
Garage parking costs less than that ticket. The Old School Square Garage at 95 NE 1st Avenue is listed at $1.50 an hour. The DDA's parking page points drivers to the City's My Delray Beach app, which shows parking availability in real time. Some longtime Saturday regulars may remember the garage being free before 4 p.m. during the 2024 Halloween events. The current listing shows the hourly rate, and no October 24 exception has been announced.
Here is October 24 pieced together from the DDA, CRA and Old School Square listings:
| Time | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. | 15th Annual Witches of Delray ride | City Hall to Old School Square |
| 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. | GreenMarket opening day | Old School Square campus |
| 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Orchid sale, continuing Sunday | Vintage Gym, Old School Square |
| 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Trick-or-Treating on the Avenue | Atlantic Avenue |
| 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Kidsfest | Old School Square |
| 1 p.m. | Halloween Parade | Federal Highway to Old School Square |
Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., the market, Kidsfest and the orchid sale all run on the same campus. The parade arrives in the middle of that window. The Witches ride raises money for the Achievement Centers for Children & Families, and it overlaps the market's first two hours.
Some details are still missing. The City's event page lists trick-or-treating at 11:30 a.m., while the DDA lists 11 a.m. The DDA's September 28 announcement says Atlantic Avenue "will be closed to traffic" for trick-or-treating, but it gives no hours or end points. The ride organizer's page has a section titled "Flight Route Overview," but no route has been posted there yet. No campus map has been published showing how the market, Kidsfest and the ride's finish will split the grounds.
The last time the dates lined up gives some idea of what to expect. In 2024, the GreenMarket opened on Saturday, October 26, and the City's calendar listed Kidsfest on the same day. That morning, local coverage reported closures on NW 1st Avenue, Swinton Avenue and Atlantic Avenue from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. That was two years ago, and the 2026 closures have not been announced. The roads named in 2024 surround the campus, so a market run before the ride finishes, or after the parade has broken up, is the safer plan until the City posts its list.
For shoppers who mainly come for produce, the CRA's description of the market suggests what to go for first. The lineup includes locally grown produce, grass-fed beef, fresh-caught seafood, just-picked citrus, farm-fresh eggs, artisan cheese and baked goods. A food area has on-site cooking and seating, and live music plays through the morning. SNAP benefits work through the EBT booth, which exchanges a card swipe for market tokens.
Two Saturdays later, the campus is shared again. Art on the Square Fine Art Show returns November 7 and 8 on the Old School Square grounds, with about 100 artists. Old School Square also lists the GreenMarket on November 7 at its usual 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with no relocation announced. The CRA's closure list does not include that date either.
This overlap is gentler than Halloween. There is no parade and no street closure listed, and the art show continues into Sunday. Anyone who wants the art without the market crowd has Sunday, November 8. A Saturday morning visit covers both: produce first, then the artists.
The holiday season shows the line the market draws. Delray's 100-foot Christmas Tree Lighting and Yuletide Festival is Tuesday, December 1, with the lighting at 7 p.m. For that event, the DDA says Atlantic Avenue will close between Swinton Avenue and NE 5th Avenue. The tree and Santa's Village stay up through New Year's Day. Because it falls on a weeknight, it doesn't touch a market Saturday.
Eleven days later, the Holiday Parade gets a full Saturday, and the GreenMarket closes on December 12. That is the only Saturday this fall when the market makes way. The DDA's recurring GreenMarket page still shows a 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. market on December 12. The CRA runs the market and lists that date as closed, so plan on no market that Saturday unless the CRA posts otherwise. The tree and Santa's Village will still be up on December 5, 19 and 26, all of which are market Saturdays.
Taken together, the fall calendar works like this. October 24 and November 7 are shared Saturdays, December 12 is the one closed Saturday, and every other Saturday through the holidays is a regular market morning.
